Welcome to another installment of Pimping the System. It's Desean "DJ" Justice once again giving you accounts of the men, women, and organizations that felt they're above being persecuted by the letter of the law and this story is no different. Without further ado, let's get started.
Dr. Farid Fata of Oakland Township, Michigan was accused of healthcare fraud after he falsified several Medicare claims of his cancer patients to the government to the tune of $35 million over the past two years. Some of the practices included performing unnecessary chemotherapy on patients in remission, intentionally misdiagnosing patients and different cancer and hematology treatments to folks who didn't needed them.
Because of these claims, Fata who owns & operates the Michigan Hematology Oncology Centers (HMO) was placed under arrest at the Wayne County Jail in Detroit, MI. Whereas originally his bond was set at $170,000 by orders of the Government, U.S. District Judge Sean Cox raised it to $9.4 million. Considering Dr. Fata as a flight risk, placing him in home confinement, cannot practice medicine while his case is pending and presents a threat to the community. Cox also added the following statement. "Although he doesn't have any prior criminal record, he seem to have the means and motive to flee the country."
However, the doc's lawyer biggest issue with jacking up the bond is the lack of proof to backup these claims, he asked for a $25,000 bond and plans to appeal.
Honestly, I have no idea whom to believe here. But if these accusations are proven to be true then there will be a special place in jail and hell for him. Speaking from the experience of both my parents which are cancer survivors themselves this would make me sick to my stomach to sacrifice human lives for a few millions. If he's innocent then his reputation would be considerably damaged beyond repair.
Either way, It's a lose/lose situation for Dr. Fata.
Was he the first...hell no nor will he be the last.
